Dance

This qualification offers an engaging programme to support learners who want to pursue a career in dance, or just pursue and interest at level 3.

You need to be committed and willing to work hard. We move fast on the course so you need a good level of practical and theory skills. This is why we audition – to check you will manage with the speed and level of work.

You have to be willing to research, analyse, evaluate and write/type, meet deadline and manage your workload.

We work creatively so you need to be comfortable sharing your ideas, working with others, taking on new ideas and performing in front of peers, large and small audiences in all sorts of settings.

We do lots of dance classes to condition the body to develop a technique that will make you a versatile dancer. The movement style is eclectic as the course is designed to stretch and challenge your technical and mentally. Movement can cover a range of methods and movements from Jazz, Contemporary, ballet, gymnastics, yoga, Street dance and more. A positive, willing and open attitude is important.

Our dance students also learn choreography and improvisation to diversify their portfolio of skills. There will be a need to create movement as well as quickly pick up set choreography.

This course is focused on developing skills for dancers. It allows a student to focus on developing a collection of skills to prepare for work of further study and training. We have had dancers go to Laban, LIPA, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Birds, London Studios, Creative Academy, Rambert School, Salford, Leeds, John Moores…..and the list goes on.Ìý

We have also had many students to progress into the dance industry, performing, teaching, choreographing, community work, running dance schools, companies or teaching dance in education, coaching.

We also have students go into nursing, maths, law, psychology, social work and many other careers and degrees.Ìý

Dance is a subject that develops a range of transferable skills, build confidence, helps you grow academically and personally.

Five units, of which two are mandatory and one is external. Mandatory content (50%). External assessment (33%).
