*You must have聽GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths to enroll on this course. Or, you need a聽GCSE聽at grade 4 (C) in English OR Maths, but you must enroll on to either English and Maths alongside Biology.聽
*We are the only Higher and Adult Education college in Tameside that offers GCSE Biology - so there are limited places on the course.聽
The GCSE Science course involves 30 weeks of intense study in Biology. There are 2 written exams worth 50% each.
You can study at 2 different levels and this will be discussed with your tutor. The levels available are:
- Foundation leading to grades 1-5聽
- Higher leading to grades 4-9.聽
The modules you will complete are:
- Bioenergetics
- Organisation
- Cell Biology
- Infection and Response
- Ecology
- Inheritance, variation and evolution
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who needs a grade 4 or above for their chosen career e.g. teaching, midwifery, nursing, or any adult who has a genuine interest in science and wishes to obtain a qualification in Biology.

Cost
If you are a Greater Manchester Resident (or aged 19-23 and non-GM resident) and don鈥檛 already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, the聽course will be FREE.
