What does this qualification cover?

This qualification is an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part-time support staff may fulfil including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.

Who is this course suitable for?Ìý

The qualification is aimed at a range of learners, including mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language, who are thinking of working in a school or college setting.

How will you be assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.

There will also be some independent learning.

Entry requirementsÌý
  • Learners must be age 19+
  • Learners must have a good standard of verbal and written skills.Ìý

This is a knowledge-only qualification. LearnersÌýdo notÌýneed to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification.


What qualifications can you progress to?

Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, which shares mandatory units.Ìý

Cost

Study for free if you are 19 or older, and live in Greater Manchester if/and:Ìý

  • This is your first Level 2 qualification (which equates to 5 GCSE's grade 9-4/A*-C, one A-level, or two or three AS levels, BTEC or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent)
  • You are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), Employment Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit. Universal Credit must be less than £617 a month or £988 a month for a joint claim
  • You are in paid employment but with an annual gross salary less than £23,104
